REMINDER – Champlain Bridge: Major Works on Weekends in August and September
We wish to announce that there will be numerous lane closures on the Champlain Bridge every weekend from August 6 to September 20. Each time the lanes will be closed from Friday 10 PM to Monday, 5 AM. During this road work, two lanes, or sometimes even just one, will be open on the Champlain Bridge in each direction (north and south) rather than the usual three (see detailed scenarios below).
During the repair work, which includes three major closures, we recommend that motorists use the Jacques Cartier, Victoria or even the Honoré Mercier Bridge. In a special arrangement, two lanes on the Victoria Bridge could be open to traffic in one direction at specific times to help reduce the impact of the closure of the Champlain Bridge (scheduled to come). Depending on traffic levels, three lanes may also be open in one direction on the Jacques Cartier Bridge.
DETAILS ON LANES OPEN DURING THE REPAIRS :
Work on southbound lanes – 5 weekends
August 6 – 9, August 13 – 16, August 27 – 30 and September 3 – 6:
Each weekend, from Friday 10 PM to Monday, 5 AM:
- Champlain Bridge, daytime (10 AM – 10 PM)*: 2 lanes open in each direction (north and southbound)
- Champlain Bridge, night (10 PM – 10 AM)*: 1 southbound lane and 2 northbound lanes open
*Please note that on the Saturdays of August 7 and 14, night closures will not start until midnight, to facilitate traffic following L’International des Feux Loto-Québec. Two lanes will, therefore, remain open in each direction until midnight on both evenings.
August 20 – 23 – MAJOR WORK
From Friday, 10 PM to Monday, 5 AM:
- Champlain Bridge, day and night: 1 southbound lane and 2 northbound lanes open
Work on northbound lanes – 2 weekends
September 10 – 13 and September 17 – 20 – MAJOR WORK
Both weekends, from Friday 10 PM to Monday, 5 AM:
- Champlain Bridge, day and night: 1 northbound lane and 2 southbound lanes open
Note also that the north or southbound lanes, depending on the work place, open to traffic on the Champlain Bridge will be narrower, i.e.: 3.3 metres. Trucks that exceed the permitted width are asked to avoid the Champlain Bridge.
The purpose of these closures is to carry out major paving work on the Champlain Bridge on all southbound lanes, and to completely replace some expansion joints across the full width of the Bridge (north and southbound lanes).
